Ruth Roman was born on June 22nd, 1939, in Lynn Massachusetts. She is the youngest child of Lithuanian Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold & Abraham Roman. Ruth was a small teenager when her father who worked as an carnival barker, died. Her mother was forced to perform tasks such as waitressing and cleaning. Ruth was raised in the poor Boston tenement community in Massachusetts. She was a student there. But she only stayed in school for two years before going on to pursue an acting profession. Her journey was not without obstacles. her chosen career path. Then, in New York she was hired to do a photo shoot for a publication about crime, but no theatrical opportunities were offered. Her next job was as a "hat check" girl for a nightclub before she gave up and moved back to Boston. It was the New England Repertory Company was her first gig as a regular actor. Earned money working during the day as an usherette. Drama studies led her to receive a degree in the Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
